Job Summary:
Performs analysis, design, development, testing and documentation of applications. Performs development of new applications as well as enhancements and maintenance of existing applications. Also performs Tier III support. Must be able to define enhancement objectives, document the solution, estimate effort, code, and test work. Senior Developers work closely with the project managers to estimate, schedule, and coordinate development activities, as well as, the quality assurance team to support integration and user testing. This position provides leadership within the applications development team and leads in key applications development, and integration spanning business units and technologies.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Through understanding of applications deployment specific to their roll within applications development
- Through understanding of application specific deployment and requirements both regarding internally developed and purchased solutions and respect for their current deployment
- Design, develop and test new applications, jobs, and reports
- Enhance and maintain existing applications, jobs and reports
- Design, develop and test application integration components spanning business units and technologies
- Implement enhancements to existing applications, jobs, and reports
- Identify and communicate risk within the enterprise’s application development and deployment
- Document and effectively communicate application functionality including job flow and recovery procedures to anyone effected or having shared responsibilities for the applications deployment
- Understand integration points to the many different systems as they relate to the position
- Provide leadership and direction for the applications development team
- Oversee other developers work and be part of peer review team throughout the software development life cycle
- Mentor other junior - medium level developers in development techniques and best practices
- Work closely with and have respect for the paradigms and requirements of management, other IT functional groups, and business units while gathering requirements and implementing change
- Lead medium to very complex development projects from design, development, testing, and implementation
- Represent the applications development perspective as it relates to development and deployment related issues within HDFS
- Other duties deemed necessary and appropriate by HDFS management
Education Required:
Bachelor's degree
Experience Required:
Experience/Knowledge/Other Skills
- 8+ years of applicable experience within applications development or related area
- 4 Year Degree or equivalent work experience. Bachelors degree, preferably in Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field is preferred
- Professional certifications in HDFS implemented technologies a plus
- Experience with a business unit specific to HDFS (Wholesale finance, Retail finance, or Insurance) a plus
- Adhere to established business policies and standards
- Effective business communication skills
- Ability to perform high level analysis of applications
- Ability to create detailed schematics, diagrams, procedures, and other applications development related documentation
- Demonstrated ability to lead a programming team to accomplish set development deliverables
- Design and prototype reusable business applications
- Demonstrated use of known industry standard development methodologies and best practices to achieve superior quality products and services
- Ability to work with cross-functional teams that can span across business units and organizations using a variety of technologies
- Must show proven track record of developed applications using required software tools along with showing ability to work independently on tasks and projects.
- Must be able to provide technical expertise, leadership, training and mentorship to those affected by changes within the applications deployment
- Experience doing analysis, design, and coding for complex systems
- Expert at estimating development efforts

HDFS WHOLESALE TECHNOLOGY SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
8+ Years of applications development experience in the following required:
- IBM System i (iSeries, AS/400)
- IBM i5/OS (OS/400) including Control Language (CL) programming
- IBM Report Program Generator (RPGIV, ILE RPG) programming
- IBM DB/2 Database Management System (DBMS) physical and logical file development
- IBM Data Description Specifications (DDS) display and printer file development
- IBM Utilities including PDM, SEU, SDA, RLU, DFU, and Query
Solid Working Knowledge of the following also required:
- IBM RPG cycle programming
- IBM System i TCP/IP; Secured FTP
- IBM System i security considerations
- IBM System i data management considerations
- Working knowledge of Change Management concepts
Applications development experience with the following preferred:
- WebSphere Development Studio Client (WDSC)
